Sustainability in the UK and ROI

Environmental and social sustainability is integrated into Essity’s strategy and a priority for long-term profitable growth. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact by decarbonizing our business and maintaining healthy ecosystems while contributing to a circular, healthier and more inclusive society.

Manufacturing sites

Prudhoe

We are building a brand-new state-of-the art recycled fibre facility that will process recycled fibre more efficiently, at a greater volume, and from lower grade sources. It will also boast superior plastic segregation and better energy efficiency. The new separation system will result in plastic rejects having less moisture content which could allow this waste to be used as an alternative fuel source and move away from landfill.

Stubbins

Stubbins is the only UK Essity site which has the technology to recycle used takeaway drinks cups and paper towels to make new paper products. In recent years, Essity has had to innovate to find new sources and recycled fibre including fibre that is of a lower grade of quality. Essity pioneered the world’s first process to recycle used hand towels from public washrooms.

Manchester Trafford Park

Our innovative coreless line of toilet tissue is made at Trafford Park. We were the first UK manufacturer to remove the cardboard core from the centre of toilet rolls and kitchen towel rolls. This has reduced the materials that we use and reduced waste.

Oakenholt

The Oakenholt Mill regularly organises its own donations to support local communities, such as arranging a Christmas toy appeal for Wrexham Maelor Hospital and a monetary donation to a youth centre in a disadvantaged area of Merseyside.

Skelmersdale

The Skelmersdale Community Fund regularly makes monetary and product donations to local charities.

Offices

Didsbury

By moving to Longer Rolls, Cushelle has achieved 17% less plastic packaging, 33% less cardboard, 45,000 fewer pallets used and 1,000 fewer lorries on the road.

Through Essity's partnership with In Kind Direct, Cushelle has formally pledged to donate 1 million toilet rolls a year. Bodyform have also pledged to donate a minimum of 1.2 million period products annually. These products are delivered to local charities to tackle hygiene and period poverty.

Dunstable

Tork has launched a natural fibre washroom range made from 100% recycled fibres and packaged in 100% recycled cardboard boxes. This follows the recent launch of Tork’s carbon neutral dispensers.

Willerby, Hull

All employees in the Health and Medical team are encouraged to use their two awarded annual volunteering days to volunteer for Essity's charity partner, In Kind Direct.

Dublin

Essity's Dublin office sponsors a star on the Grafton Street Christmas tree every year for the Focus Ireland homeless charity.
